Argument Essay Death Penalty Essay Example

Argument Essay Death Penalty Essay Example Argument Essay Death Penalty Essay Argument Essay Death Penalty Essay Nicole Stewart Argument essay â€Å"The Death Penalty The death penalty also known as the Capital punishment has been argued that it is merely to fulfill a desire for revenge. Also many people often questioned whether its fair or not to continue with the death penalty. Whether or not the punishment is legal, it depends upon whether or not the punishment serves a valid point or purpose of a policy. The death penalty has been going on for years, and as the years go by, many other states are starting to make the death penalty legal. I personally feel that the court system should discontinue the death penalty. The death penalty only allows us to extend the pain. It allows us to continue to blame one another, to turn against one another, to learn to hate better. Although the death penalty punishes them for what they already done, its unclear that the murderer has the same right to live as their victim. Many people says that its cheaper to send a person on death row than to keep a criminal in for imprisonment without a possibility for parole. Even though its cheaper to do the death penalty, it does not mean for the court system to decide to kill a person. Its basically doing the same thing as the murderer was doing, but its more legal. Today, the death penalty is still uncertain in many cases if its just or unjust. Should a murderer get his own life taken or should it be called cruel unusual punishment. I often wonder if the Capitol punishment is a way to get revenge for what the murderers have done to their victims, which makes me question against the constitution. No matter how the death penalty is carried out, I feel as if no man should have the power to judge and sentence another to death. Although, what the murderers has done was not right, I feel like being in prison for life is good enough punishment for them.

What Allahu Akbar Means

What Allahu Akbar Means Although most often translated as God is great, Allahu Akbar is Arabic for God is greater or God is greatest. The phrase, known as takbir in Arabic, is expressive of a range of moods and occasions in the Islamic world, from displays of approval and happiness to entreaties or spiritual and at times propagandistic cheerleading during political rallies. Allahu Akbar is also spoken during salat, the five-times-daily prayer, and by muezzins as they chant the call to prayer from their minarets. Allahu Akbar in International News The phrase has been tainted by its usage, or rather misuse, by Islamist extremists, Salafists, and terrorists, including the 9/11 terrorists, several of whom carried copies of handwritten letters exhorting them to strike like champions who do not want to go back to this world. Shout, Allahu Akbar, because this strikes fear in the hearts of the nonbelievers. The phrase was also used with political undertones during Irans 1979 Islamic Revolution, as Iranians took to their roofs and shouted Allahu Akbar in defiance of the shahs regime. Iranians returned to the ritual in the aftermath of the fraudulent presidential election of June 2009. Common Misspellings: Allah Akbar

Will U.S. Be Overtaken by China Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Will U.S. Be Overtaken by China - Research Paper Example The assumption and expectation that China would one day become the world’s richest country is not a new one. The country has enjoyed massive economic growth and expansion of its global presence which have made it to economically surpass tens of countries within the last 20 years to sit at the second place. The current and future economic growth of China is as fast as it is diverse, while the US is facing a lot of financial challenges2. The fact that China’s economic and socio-political performance is only expected to be better while that of the US remains shaky makes China more likely than not to overtake the US in the next few years. Important Indicators for China’s Growing Superiority For the last thirty years, China has reported impressive economic growth3. The country has in fact been the fastest growing economy in that period of time. Economists have put the economic growth of China to be 17 times what it was in 1980. An interesting fact is that China was ra pidly growing while most of the rest of the world was not doing that well financially. About ten years ago, the United States’ economy was 10 times bigger than that of China. Today, China’s economic superiority cannot be refuted and its place as a world economic power was sealed after overtaking world’s number two spot from Japan. After a long time of what seemed to have been economic slumber, China finally woke up to its potential in the eighties. Other countries including the United States started to adopt and implement neo-modern policy changes. This included opening up to unrestricted capital flows and external trade. The countries also developed policies that enabled their central banks to be increasingly independent. They also adopted tighter cyclical monetary and fiscal policies and abandoned many of the development strategies that had previously been highly successful. China on the other hand, did not adopt these policies, many of which were promoted by world financial bodies such as the IMF, World Trade Organization and the World Bank whose decisions were heavily influenced by decision makers and economic planners based in Washington. China was not a member of the WTO up until 2002. Although China’s economic acceleration involved the expansion of foreign investment and trade, its financial decisions and management were carried differently from the rest of the world4. The most outstanding difference was that China’s economy was largely controlled by the state, unlike in the US where it was liberalized. State control was meant to ensure that trade and investment decisions were in line with the development goals of the government. One of these goals was to develop and make products intended for the external or international market. China’s policies also promoted the use of enhanced technology. The aim was to transfer high level technological competence from foreign investors to the local economy. The government w as also keen on hiring Chinese for jobs at the managerial and technical levels. This meant that foreign enterprises could not compete at the same level with many domestic businesses. The economy of China is still largely controlled by the government. The state controls a huge percentage of the exchange rate and other financial systems. A substantial amount of industrial assets are also under the control of the government. When other countries were struggling under the pressure of the recent worldwide recession, China’s economy was not affected. The state-led economic system can be and should be credited for this. The country enjoyed an enviable 9.8% GDP growth though this was a fall of 3.7% mainly due to the poor performance of the international mar

The Importance of the Religious Right in Us Politics Essay Example for Free

The Importance of the Religious Right in Us Politics Essay This does not apply only to republicans, however. JFKs inaugural speech in 1961 consisted of many religious elements, as did Barack Obama’s speech in 2009, in which he spoke of ‘the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny†. Many presidents have ridden to power on the back of religion. Presidents that appeal to the ‘three Fs’, faith flag and fail, or e ‘three Gs’ God, gays and guns, are favourites among the American people. President Bush directly appealed to theses interests and 79% of evangelicals voted to re-elect Bush. Candidates such as Hilary Clinton, who ran for the Democratic candidacy, didn’t achieve success as it could be argued she did not play heavily enough on the concept of religion. John McCain did not appeal directly to the three Gs or Fs so it could be argued that this was the reason he failed to beat Obama in 2008. One of the most important influences of the religious right is it’s infiltration in the republican party through the up and coming far-right movement know as The Tea Party. The TPM started life as a fiscally conservative group that believed federal government was too big and was spending too much. As the movement gathered support, it started to take on social issues, many of which were influenced by the religious right, as they took heavily conservative positions. Many Tea Party candidates influenced the 2010 mid-term elections as they have voted in and took away the democratic majority in the congress. The tea party has removed the right wing of the Democrat party as they have pulled the Republican Party further right as they defeated many ‘Moderate’ Republican candidates. The religious right have also had a big influence in the media, through the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) which supports and publicises candidates that support their views. Therefore, I would argue that the ‘religious right’ is highly influential in politics as they have recently made the republicans further right and the democrats further left. This has split American politics and made the parties different in their ideologies. For instance, they have also created conditions where the religion of a candidate is important in terms of the elections. The religious right has therefore broken the founding fathers wish to keep politics and religion separate.

Crime Of Passion By Barbara Hu :: Barbara Hu Crime Of Passion

The essay â€Å"A Crime of Compassion† was written by Barbara Huttmann. A story of love, dedication, moral values, and a nurse who loved her job and her patients very dearly. One of her patients was a young police officer who had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Within six months time, he had lost his youth, two of his five senses and his ability to do anything for himself. He had stopped breathing numerous times, and each time he was resuscitated. Eventually the pain became unbearable and he begged for God to take him. Being resuscitated wasn’t what he wanted anymore, he wanted to die. This nurse with so much love and so much knowledge relieved him of his pain and let him die. The public and the hospital then scolded her. She was labeled a murderer. The author’s use of description was very detailed and very real. Reading this essay was like watching it on television. Every sentence was described with so much depth; there was no need to imagine the scenery or the excitement of the hospital. The healthy police officer was described as a young, witty macho cop with thirty-two pounds of attack equipment. When reading this, the vision of a man in a blue uniform with his gun and walkie-talkie enters the mind. When the man had been diagnosed with lung cancer he was described as a sixty pound skeleton being kept alive by liquid food poured down a tube. The code blues were described horrifically. He stopped breathing two to three times a day, and every time he stopped he was resuscitated. â€Å"The nurses stayed to wipe away the saliva that drooled from his mouth, irrigate the big craters of bedsores that covered his hips, suction the lung fluids that threatened to drown him, clean the feces that burned his skin†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He was going through an agonizing ordeal, and he was being kept alive unnaturally. The pain he was enduring was far too much for any human or any animal to sustain.
